Demonstrated to be one of the safest and most reliable methods of wellbore support and sand control, G&L Slotco slotted liners are strong, easily installed, and virtually maintenance-free.

Providing a rugged screen, they allow formation fluids to enter the wellbore with less frictional drag than the lateral wound wire of wrapped screens.

At the same time, the longitudinal beveled slots control incursion problems more effectively than the sharp-edged wide profile holes of wrapped drilled liners.

STRENGTH AND RELIABILITY ASSURED BY STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY

G&L Slotco's leadership in the delivery of slotted liners is assured by its state-of-the-art technology. Sophisticated multi-spindle milling machines are used to manufacture slotted pipe of exceptional quality. Specially-designed, this equipment is hydraulically controlled for high precision and constant quality control.

Our slotting machines are designed to handle pipe sizes up to 12 inches in diameter and can manufacture lengths up to 46 feet at one time. This extremely stable and rigid equipment enables the pipe to be milled to a precise tolerance, producing clean openings and consistent slot widths and lengths.

A unique hydraulic clamping system secures and straightens the casing without damaging the pipe or slots. Special high speed steel circular saws cut the slots. Continuous application of coolant maintains the pipe's metallurgical integrity. No excess metal is removed and maximum pipe strength is assured while staying within a specified open area.

DESIGNED FOR MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY, MANUFACTURED TO ANY SPECIFICATION

G&L Slotco produces two styles of slots - either Straight or Keystone (under-cut).

straight slot Straight Slots - the first type of slots created in liners, they are cut with equal width through the wall of the pipe.

Specified where sand grain bridging at the slot is not of major importance, straight slots are more wear-resistant than keystone slots and are less costly to produce. The wider cut straight slot permits sand grains to pass through without clogging.

keystone slot Keystone Slots - are milled wider on the pipe interior and are self cleaning to help prevent clogging. Narrow at the liner surface and increasing in width at the interior, they let sand that does enter pass easily through the slots without clogging.

G&L Slotco's equipment has the capability to produce keystone slotting in angles from one to nine degrees.

Generally speaking, the width of the slots should be some two to three times the diameter of medium-sized sand particles.

Slot Lengths - are precision cut at high production rates and can be matched to your precise specifications in lengths of 1 inch to 2 inches depending on slot width.

The most common slot lengths consist of:

  • 1.5 inches in length on the interior diameter for slot widths up to 0.028 inches
  • 2.0 inches in length on the interior diameter for slot widths from 0.038 to 0.250 inches.
  • 2.0 inches in length on the interior diameter for slot widths from 0.025 to 0.028 inches are available on request.
Unless otherwise specified, slotted liners are cut with an even number of rows. This enables the rows to be staggered in order to preserve most of the pipe's original strength and to maintain a 3% open area. When slots are evenly distributed over the pipe surface, drainage is more efficient.

The illustrations below show four typical slot patterns: (A) a 1.5" slot length in straight in-line pattern, (B) a 1.5" slot length in a staggered pattern, (C) a 2.0" slot length in a staggered pattern, and (D) s 2.0" slot length available in a multiple or gang slot pattern.

Delivered Clean and Ready

Before slotted pipe is delivered, all casings are thoroughly cleaned and lubricated, and burrs or loose metal are cleaned from the interior and exterior. G&L Slotco's specialized equipment uses a spring steel, reversible cleaning head to remove burrs and final cleaning of the casing interior is done by pressurized air. The exterior of the pipe is cleaned by two fine wire brushes which remove chaff and excess oil.

The equipment can accommodate pipes up to 46 feet in length and up to 12 inches in diameter. A light scope is used for final inspection of the casing and a film of rust-protective oil is applied to all surfaces prior to warehousing and delivery.
